Get Involved: Organizations and Clubs
Our students have ample opportunities to get involved beyond the classroom. Make connections, make memories as you make your way in English Studies and Journalism.
Pen and Ink Society: The Pen and Ink Society is a student writing organization which meets regularly to discuss and improve their own work and the work of others for the betterment of their understanding of the craft as a whole and as individuals.
Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society: This national English honor society is open to students at accredited colleges and universities such as Adrian College that grant baccalaureate or higher degrees. It was established in 1924 to confer distinction for high achievement in English language, literature, and writing.
Oxcart: All Adrian College students are invited to write for, edit, and design the English Department’s literary magazine, Oxcart. Students may enroll in English 151 Publications Activities and earn credit while contributing to the magazine or simply volunteer.
Creative Writing Awards: Each spring term, the Department of English Studies and Journalism sponsors a Creative Writing Contest open to all students on campus. Judged by a professional writer from outside the college, students who place in the contest are awarded gifts and prizes during our annual Creative Writing Awards night, and their work is published in the college’s literary magazine, Oxcart. All students who submit their work to the contest are celebrated during the awards and are invited to share their work during an open mic.
The College World: The College World is the student-edited newspaper of Adrian College. It is published online weekly and in print monthly in September, October, November, February, March, and April. Students may choose to enroll in the Journalism 151 Publications Activities class and work for credit on the newspaper. Students may also apply for a paid position or volunteer as a staff writer or columnist. https://adriancollegeworld.wordpress.com/
