Languages opening up new worlds, new experiences.
Learning languages extends beyond the classrooms and into the countries where it is natively spoken. From Spanish to French, from German to American Sign Language—the languages and the cultures behind them are a distinct and unique part of the learning process.
During his study abroad trip to Cusco, Peru in the Fall of 2012, Derek Jackson was asked to write a short story featuring his Spanish language skills. For his assignment, he used personal experiences in Cusco to format a story line. His 2013 Ribbons of Excellence presentation showcased the final work of the story, incorporating all three of his dissertations (Spanish, English literature and teacher education certification) and the writing process. The presentation was centered around the ribbon Crossing Boundaries and Disciplines.
