ADRIAN, Mich. – Spring commencement at Adrian College is scheduled for 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 29, 2012. Last year began a new tradition of holding commencement on the mall, this year the celebration will once again resume at the center of campus near the Bell-tower. Over 300 students are expected to take part in this year’s ceremony.
The traditional Baccalaureate ceremony is scheduled in Herrick Chapel, located on the College campus off of Charles St., at 10:30 A.M.
Mr. Pat Boone, a renowned singer, writer and actor, will give the commencement address. Boone sold over 45 million albums, had 38 Top 40 hits and appeared in more than 12 Hollywood movies. Boone’s talent as a singer and actor, combined with his old-fashioned values, contributed to his popularity.
Honorary degrees will be awarded to Dr. Hildreth Spencer and Mrs. Ingrid Cornelius-Roberts, posthumously. Following the conferral of degrees, the College will hold its Cane Ceremony, an Adrian College tradition dating back to 1875. During the ceremony, the graduating class presents the College’s beloved Shepherd’s Crook to the undergraduates as a symbol of achievement and a transfer of responsibility. Before passing the crook, the president of the graduating class attaches a ribbon bearing the name of each class member.
