ADRIAN, Mich. – The sound of music will dance in the air on Saturday, April 14, as Adrian College announces its spring concert series. Beginning at 11:00 AM, the Adrian College Concert Bands and Wind Ensemble will take the stage in Dawson Auditorium. This extraordinary concert will feature performances of Gustav Holst’s First Suite for Military Band, A Tribute to Rudy Wiedoeft featuring Jason Ransom on alto saxophone, and Eric Whitacre’s Godzilla Eats Las Vegas, featuring an accompanying video created by 2011 Adrian College graduate Troy Spence.
At 5:00 PM, the Adrian College Jazz Ensembles and Dixieland Band will bring the southern sounds of comfort to the stage with sections that will cover the spectrum of 20th Century jazz. This unique performance will include such hits as a traditional setting of Duke Ellington’s It Don’t Mean a Thing if it Ain’t Got That Swing, Jimmy Giuffre’s Four Brothers from the Woody Herman Library, Neal Hefti’s Cute from the Count Basie Library, Chick Corea’s Spain from the Maynard Ferguson Library, and many more. The concert will also feature student vocalists Dan Steinkopf, Jaelinn Soeltner, and Hannah Messerschmidt.
