ADRIAN, MI – Adrian College prepares to kick off the fall in great fashion during Homecoming weekend which welcomes alumni, friends and the community to campus September 23 – 25, 2011.
Events leading up to the football game begin Friday September 23, with the Planetarium Show “Fall Sky” at 7 p.m. Then, mark your calendars to see the Lady Bulldogs take on Albion College in women’s volleyball at the Merillat Sport & Fitness Center, Performance Gym at 6:30 p.m. General admission is $5; seniors over 60 and children under 10 are $3.
On Saturday, September 24, the Homecoming tradition will officially kick off with a fun filled day of family events. Tailgating will take place in the Merillat parking lot from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Begin early with the Bulldog 20K or 50K Run, then gather for breakfast and enjoy good food and entertainment throughout the day and into the evening. Sodexo food service and other special vendors will be on site beginning at 11 a.m.
The traditional Kids Korner will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is no cost to attend, and children of all ages will enjoy a variety of activities. A Civil War encampment will also be set up near Arrington Ice Arena depicting historical displays and costumes from 150 years ago.
The Homecoming Parade starts at 1 pm! This year’s parade is entitled “Unleashing Creativity” and invites all to participate by bringing your most creatively dressed pet to the festivities for your chance to win a $100 prize! The themed parade route is set from Maumee St. to Madison St. to Michigan Ave. to Charles St. and will end inside the Multisport Performance Stadium on the College’s campus. For those who live along the parade route, bring out the lawn chairs, and enjoy a variety of participants both local and regionally based!
Be there in full Bulldog spirit as the football team takes on Concordia University (Chicago) at 4 p.m. Gates open at 3 p.m. and general admission is $5; seniors over 60 and children under 10 $3. For reserved seats or season tickets, contact Kristina Schweikert at 517-265-5161 ext. 3998 or 5044.
After the game, continue the Homecoming celebration as live music will be provided by Mid Lyfe Crysis, featuring local musicians.
At 7 p.m. the DI ACHA hockey team takes on Bowling Green University at Arrington Ice Arena. Enjoy the hockey atmosphere and chill out for the evening. General Admission is $5; seniors over 60 and children under 10 $3.
On Sunday, September 25, the morning begins with the Bulldog 5K Run and Kid’s Fun Run followed by a morning worship service featuring the Adrian College Choir. This year’s Sunday sermon will be presented by alumnus Martin Cobb ’96 who serves as pastor of Quincy and Litchfield United Methodist Churches.
The Bulldog 5 K Run and Kids Fun Run check in occurs between 7:30 a.m. and 8:45 a.m in the Merillat Lobby. Cost is $20 for 5 K Run; $10 kid’s runs. Entry form required; see www.adrianbulldogs.com or contact James Larson, 517-264-3992 or email@example.com.
Later that day, enjoy the sounds of the Adrian Symphony Orchestra as they present “Of Paradise and Light”, a classical concert held in Dawson Auditorium at 3 p.m. Tickets are available by calling (517) 264-3121 or visiting adriansymphony.org
Throughout the weekend, be sure to stop by the Caine Student Center which features Jazzman’s Coffee, Scoreboard Café with Quiznos & Grill 155, and the 110 Madison Ave. Salon. Don’t forget your Bulldog gear at The Arrington Bookstore (daily hours vary). Or, stop by, put up your feet and relax on the all new Terrace in front of Caine Student Center.
