ADRIAN, Mich. – The Track & Explore program at Adrian College is once again making headlines, this time as a recipient of a $10,000 grant from MIS Cares & its partner Americrown. The grant supports the College’s program with the acclaimed speedway.
The initiative between the College and Michigan International Speedway (MIS) offers a unique science center and science-related field trips. Track & Explore uses 900 acres of natural area at MIS as an outdoor classroom for area middle school students and as a practicum for Adrian College science and education majors. Adrian College students conduct research, create lessons and lead environmental-science field trips at the site.
The grants will support the integration of technology into the science field trips offered, purchase experimental materials, and support research stipends for AC students.
“We are grateful for the continuing support of MIS Cares of Track and Explore,” said Dr. Agnes Caldwell, vice president and dean for academic affairs at Adrian. “The field trips support science education by providing pre and post trip lessons to teachers tied to MDE science standards. We plan on hosting another 1400 students at MIS this May.”
“It is great to share the amazing race venue and beautiful wetlands that surround Nascar’s fastest track with our area youth. We thank the staff and MIS for their innovative visioning that made this program a reality.”
MIS and its sister company Americrown combined donated a total of $774,873 to local service groups and organizations through cash donations, work programs, grants and sponsorships, as well as tickets and merchandise that clubs raffle to raise money.
