Adrian College Senior Capstone Exhibition set to open March 21

ADRIAN — The graduating seniors of Adrian College’s Department of Art and Design invite the community to attend their 2020 Senior Capstone Exhibition titled “Beneath the Surface: Variations on a Theme of Identity.” The display runs from Saturday, March 21 to Tuesday, April 21 in the Valade Gallery. An artist’s reception will be held on Saturday, March 21, from 1 to 3 p.m.

In partial fulfillment of a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, this exhibition features work by Michele Pisano-Spence, Kristina Jonas and Emily Archer. Their work focuses on aspects of identity by exploring the contrast of surface identity to what lies below the masks people wear — excavating the ancestral past by recontextualizing family photographs and raising them from a status of seemingly mundane to spiritually sacred — and the oscillation between being introverted and extroverted in a chaotic world.

The Valade Gallery is located in the Shipman Library, off Williams Street on the Adrian College campus. Free street parking is available. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with extended hours on Tuesday until 7 p.m.
