Adrian College Senior Selected as Finalist in National Vocal Competition

ADRIAN, Mich. – Finalists have been announced for composer-lyricist Scott Alan and Youtube sensation Michael Buckley’s “I’m a Star Contest,” which is looking for a singer to record a brand-new song by theatre composer Alan for his upcoming “Live” CD.  For one Adrian College senior, her submission to a favorite artist’s contest would become a dream come true as musical theatre major, Laura Ashley Greer, was selected as one of fourteen finalists in this national competition.

Scott Alan and Michael Buckley created the competition in January 2012. The intent was to allow participants to record and sing a song of their choice and post as a YouTube submission. The contest garnered an overwhelming response of 540 contestants. The duo asked for assistance from several Broadway stars to filter through to gain the top 14 finalists who would be granted entry to the second round.

Ms. Greer opted to sing Alan’s title track to the contest, “I’m a Star” as her vocal submission and acknowledges that she was surprised to have been selected as a finalist.

“It is truly a fantastic opportunity and I appreciate all of the inspiration and support that has been given to me,” said Greer. “Now, it’s up to the ‘Big Apple’ to decide!”

The Top 14 were promoted to the next round of judging, in which Broadway stars such as Cheyenne Jackson and Jonathon Groff would consider each selection. The winner is to be announced April 1st on The grand prize includes the opportunity to perform a song, which will be written especially for him or her, at Alan’s upcoming New York City concert (April 30 at Birdland). Buckley will introduce the winner.

“This is great exposure for me as a musical theatre prospect,” Greer noted. “Truly talented and accomplished musicians and artists have had the opportunity to view my video, have tweeted me, and now have my contact information. It is a fantastic opportunity.
