ADRIAN, Mich. - Adrian College has been selected to host the 2014 U.S. Figure Skating Intercollegiate Team Championships. The event, to be held April 11-13, will feature the top nine teams in the country. The top three teams from the Pacific Coast, Midwestern, and Eastern sections will go head to head at Arrington Ice Arena in the short program, freeskate, solo dance, and team maneuver events. The intercollegiate team championships will be the first-ever national competition [in any sport] held on Adrian College’s campus.
Adrian College made its debut on the intercollegiate team skating scene last season, with an impressive Midwestern Conference Championship and a fifth place finish at the 2013 Intercollegiate Team Championships. Most notably, Adrian produced three national champions at last year’s event (Senior Ladies Freeskate, Intermediate Ladies Freeskate, and Juvenile Ladies Freeskate). The team hopes to defend its Midwestern title and improve upon its overall placement at the 2014 championship.
“I look forward to building upon last year’s success. We have added depth to our roster in the junior and senior ladies events, and we are still well-rounded in solo dance and team maneuver. Our skaters are looking forward to the competitive season, and are even more excited to help host this year’s nationals,” Head Coach Ashley Carlson explained.
Top finishers in the 2013 Intercollegiate Team Skating Season included Delaware, Dartmouth, Boston, Cal-Berkeley, Adrian, UCLA, Miami (Ohio), Denver, and Michigan.
