The Valade Gallery and the Nicolay Heritage Room Gallery at Adrian College have scheduled solo exhibitions from January 13 to February 7. Both exhibits are free and open to the public.
Gillian Moore’s show, “Tangled Words,” will be featured in the Valade Gallery. A reception is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 6, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Moore was born in Grand Rapids, Mich. where she currently resides. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Missouri State University in 2013, and a Master of Fine Arts from Kendall College of Art and Design in 2018. Being born with a speech impairment, her work depicts the difficulties people with communication disorders face, including the process of undergoing therapy, and the often-unexamined emotional toll.
The Nicolay Heritage Room Gallery will be presenting “Picking up the Pieces,” a solo exhibition by Emily Archer. A reception is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 25, from 12 to 1:30 p.m.
Archer is an award winning artist who is expected to receive her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Adrian College in 2020. Focusing on studio art and minoring in art history, Archer said she has never been more passionate for the arts than she is now. Her current studies explore sculptural installations, ceramics, painting, and print media. Archer has exhibited her work in many shows. She is currently applying to graduate programs in the United States.
Both galleries are located in the Shipman Library on the Adrian College campus. Free parking is available on Williams Street. The gallery hours are Monday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with extended hours on Thursday until 7 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
