ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College Spirit Program under the leadership of head coach Regina Smith and assistant coach Holly Petry announces their qualification for nationals at the National Cheerleading Association and National Dance Alliance Collegiate Championship in Daytona Beach, Florida on April 10-14, 2012.
The cheerleaders and dancers have been preparing their technical skills all year to qualify for the event. There are two ways a University or College can qualify for the National Championship. The first option is to attend Summer Camp with other colleges or have a private home camp and compete for a bid. These bids range from Gold, Silver and Bronze. The second qualifying way is to submit a video of the technical skills of the team, which is the way Adrian College opted to qualify. Not every team gets a bid, and through video tape, the NCA and NDA have the option to deny anyone from obtaining qualifying bids to attend the championship.
“It has been a great year to be a Bulldog at Adrian College,” said Smith. “To learn both the All-Girl Cheerleading Team and the Dance Team qualified for nationals serving as one of the many teams from Adrian College to compete for a National Championship this year speaks volumes. To see the growth in these students from the beginning, when I started coaching in May, has been a blessing. It is awesome to see how the state of Michigan is adapting to a new team on the block. We have a lot to prove going to this level, and we will represent Adrian College and the community well. I am confident in these teams, and I know their potential to be successful is great!
“As a team captain, and coming from my previous University, Adrian College hands down has the most potential to be champions,” said sophomore Danielle Evans from Lumberton, Texas. “We look forward to competing in the All Girl Intermediate II Division.”
“I have watched this team change over the years,” said senior Sydney Gerdeman from Ottawa, Ohio. “Our future is bright, and I am glad to be with the family we have now. I am definitely ready for this new chapter on Adrian College Dance Team.”
