Equestrian Team Opens Season

ADRIAN, MI – The Adrian College Equestrian Team opened their season this past weekend on Oct. 9 at Grand Valley’s Kentree Stables. The team has added six competitive members to the roster this year. Five of those new riders were able to show at Grand Valley.

Senior Colleen Tekamp opened the day, with a second place finish in Open Over Fences, jumping a course of seven jumps at a 3-foot height. Three riders competed in Novice Over Fences at a 2-foot height. Sophomore Charlotte Squires received a third for her ride, and freshman Kelly MacDonald placed sixth for her round.

In the flat classes, Tekamp took the leader’s spot for her ride in Open on the Flat, gaining 12 points for the team. Tekamp qualified for High Point Rider, and went on to compete against five other riders for the title.

Junior Aubrey Quinlan received a fifth in her class, Novice on the Flat.  MacDonald placed fourth in her Novice section, and Squires received a sixth for her Novice flat work. The team rounded out their showing with Sophomore Stephanie Jones placing fourth in Beginner Walk/Trot/Canter, Sophomore Sydney Simpson earning fifth in her section of Beginner W/T/C and junior Katlyn Westmaas placing second in Walk/Trot Equitation.

The team will compete again on Saturday, Oct. 15 at Western Michigan’s facility.
