ADRIAN, Mich. – Adrian College equestrian team members made a strong showing at a recent competition in Ann Arbor, Michigan on November 5th and 6th. With 10 competitors showing, the team solidified its mark in collegiate equestrian competition bring home the reserve highpoint title for the weekend.
The show started with Senior Colleen Tekamp placing 6th in the Open over fences. Sophomore Charlotte Squires placed 3rd in Novice over fences, invigorating a strong showing of competition.
The afternoon classes proved competitive with Tekamp winning the Open flat, followed by Senior Katrina Rabishaw also taking first in Intermediate flat. Sophomore Kelly MacDonald gained a third for her performance in the Novice division. Squires rounded out the flat division, taking first place for the team in her class.
The team continued strongly with Junior Sarah Garofalo placing sixth in Novice flat, Senior Laura Thompson taking a sixth in Advanced Walk/Trot/Canter, followed by Sophomore Sydney Simpson claiming a fifth in Beginner Walk/Trot/Canter. Junior Katlyn Westmaas finished out the day with a fourth place finish in Walk Trot.
Adrian’s points accumulated to beat out 12 other teams, placing Adrian as Reserve High Point, one point behind Albion College.
On Nov. 6, the team returned for another day of competition, and another strong showing of competition. Tekamp placed second in Open over fences, while Junior Aubrey Quinlan earned a sixth in Novice over fences, followed by Squires with a fifth place.
The flat classes began with Tekamp receiving first place in her class. Rabishaw followed with a second in intermediate flat. As the team continued into the Novice division, Quinlan placed sixth, Squires received a fifth. New to the Novice division, Thompson earned a fourth place finish against more experienced competitors. The team completed the competition with Sophomore Stephanie Jones placing fifth in Beginner Walk/Trot/Canter, and Westmaas receiving third in Walk Trot.
The Adrian College Equestrian team’s next competition is January 14 & 15 at Willowbrooke Farm in Plymouth, MI.
