CANCUN, Mexico.—The former Bulldog will represent Team USA on August 24 in Cancun, Mexico.
Joe Makowski will get the unique opportunity to represent Team USA in the upcoming All-American Bowl on Saturday, August 24 in Cancun, Mexico. USA will play the University of Cancun Lions (Universidad Anahuac Can Cun) in Maya Stadium. Team USA (All-American Eagles) is comprised of 42 players from NCAA Division II, III and NAIA schools across the country. This will be the fourth game the Eagles will be playing in Mexico since 2011. Last year’s contest (Aztec Bowl) was won by the Eagles, 49-21, in front of a crowd of 25,300 spectators. This year’s head coach of the Eagles will be Chad Baldwin, who was just named head coach of the Green Bay Blizzard of the Indoor Professional League.
Makowski was a four-year letterman at Adrian College, finishing up his eligibility in 2012. He was an outside linebacker for the Bulldogs and had a total of 109 tackles including 22 tackles for loss and nine sacks. He also returned 13 kickoffs for 275 yards. Makowski won the team’s Linebacker MVP award in 2012 and was named Second Team All-MIAA. He has played in the National Guard Ohio vs. Michigan All-Star Game and also played linebacker and special teams in the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) for the Saginaw Sting in the spring of 2013. Makowski graduated from Adrian College with a Bachelor’s degree in exercise science and a minor in psychology.
