ADRIAN, Mich. – The men’s lacrosse team captured its second straight MLC Tournament title over the weekend and earned an automatic berth into the 2012 NCAA Division III Tournament. The Bulldogs (17-1) will travel to 8th-ranked Denison (13-1) on Wednesday, May 9 at a time yet to be determined.
Adrian has posted 16 straight wins after an early season loss at Roanoke and is making its second straight postseason appearance. Last year, Adrian traveled to Wittenberg and lost in overtime to the Tigers. The Denison Big Reds have the sixth-best offense and fifth-best defense in Division III. They also are ranked third nationally in face-off win percentage.
Adrian is led this season offensively by senior David Monroe who has 68 points. Monroe has 31 goals and a team-high 37 assists. Coady Adamson is right behind Monroe with 62 points including 41 goals which is tied for the team lead with T.J. Cook. Cook has 15 assists to go along with his 41 goals for a total of 56 points. Senior Mitch Barnard is a key component in the face-off circle winning 69.4 percent this season which ranks third in Division III. He also leads the team with 143 ground balls ranking 15th nationally in that category.
The Adrian College women’s lacrosse team received an at-large bid into the 2012 NCAA Division III Tournament on Sunday night and will host its first-ever NCAA Tournament game on Wednesday, May 9 at 5:00 PM against Denison.
The Bulldogs (16-2) and Big Red (14-4) faced each other during the regular season back on March 9. Adrian traveled to Granville, Ohio and claimed an 11-9 victory. Rachel Johnston had two goals and two assists in that contest for Adrian. Amanda Lambert led the Bulldogs with three goals and one assist. Laura Finfrock had a superb game in net for the Bulldogs with 14 saves.
This will be the second straight NCAA Tournament appearance for Adrian. They lost to eventual national champion Gettysburg in the first round. The winner of Wednesday’s game will face the winner of Gettysburg/Cabrini.
