ADRIAN, Mich – Adrian College has begun work on the final phase of renovations to its historic Downs Hall. Downs Hall Theatre is the primary production space for the College’s theatre program. In 2012, the college received a $625,000 grant from Sage Foundation for renovation of the historic building and has since completed numerous upgrades. These updates previously included accessibility enhancements, interior restoration and energy efficient windows throughout the building. This second phase of construction will include a reconfigured stage as well as upgraded sound, lighting and electrical systems. Adding to the historical ambiance and comfort to guests, the updates will also include new seats, flooring and wall and window coverings.
“The arts are a priority at Adrian College,” said Dr. Agnes Caldwell, Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs. “We are committed to creating a theatre that is worthy of our department’s high-quality productions, and we’re thrilled that it’s coming to fruition.”
“[Sage Foundation] clearly values historic preservation, education and the arts. It has been a wonderful, generous partner,” Caldwell added.
Renovations are expected to be complete for the 2014-15 theatre season.
