ADRIAN, Mich. – Adrian College and the YMCA of Lenawee County are set to partner up on the Healthy Kids Field Day 2012. The event will take place on Sunday, April 15 from noon to 3:00 PM on the campus of Adrian College at the Merillat Sports & Fitness Center. The event is free for all kids in kindergarten through sixth grade.
“This is a great way for Adrian College to help promote a healthy lifestyle of exercise,” said Student Athlete Advisory Committee advisor Jordan Timmerman, who is also the men’s volleyball coach at Adrian College. “The younger we can explain why fitness is important will only benefit youth in the long run. We also want to make exercise fun.”
The Adrian College SAAC is comprised of student-athletes who compete for the Bulldogs and this event will be celebrating its fifth year. The activities during the day will include an obstacle course, tug-a-war, basketball, track and field activities, dodgeball and soccer. The fun-filled day will provide students as well as parents with resources aimed at teaching the healthy behaviors that the children can use throughout their lives.
“James Larson (track and field coach) and one of his athletes (Liesle Travis) helped organize the event the first year,” said Ted Crockett, YMCA Senior Program Director. “The opportunity for the kids to interact with the Adrian College student-athletes while being physically active is really what makes this event great. Best of all it is free.”
