Senator Carl Levin to Speak at Adrian College Spring Commencement

The ceremony will be held May 5, at 3:00 p.m.

ADRIAN, Mich – United States Senator, Carl Levin, has been announced as the speaker for the 153rd commencement ceremony at Adrian College. The ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 5, at 3:00 p.m. at Commencement Plaza in the heart of the College’s campus. He will also receive an honorary degree recognizing his accomplishments. 

 

“Senator Levin’s career represents a combination of intelligence, hard work and service to others that is the hallmark of a liberal arts education,” said Dr. Jeffrey R. Docking, president of Adrian College.

 

“We are honored he will be speaking to our graduates.”

 

A graduate of Swarthmore College, and Harvard Law School, The Honorable Carl Levin was first elected in 1978 making him the longest serving Senator in Michigan’s history.  He currently serves as chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee and the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.  Additionally, he serves on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee.  Levin began his public service career in 1964 when he served as assistant attorney general and general counsel for the Michigan Civil Rights Commission.  He later served eight years on the Detroit City Council, including four years as council president. 

 

In 2006, Senator Levin was named by Time Magazine as one of “America’s 10 Best Senators.”
