Two AC skaters capture titles at 2018 US Collegiate Figure Skating Championships

Two Adrian College students, Amy and Nicole Czuhajewski, earned individual titles at the 2018 U.S. Collegiate Figure Skating Championships last weekend at the Bulldogs’ own Arrington Ice Arena.

Amy placed first in the Intermediate Ladies Short Program with a score of 25.02 on Friday, Aug. 3, and first in the Intermediate Ladies Free Skate on Saturday, Aug. 4, with a score of 43.24 for a 68.26 first place overall total.

Nicole placed second in the Junior Ladies Short Program with a score of 35.45 and second in Free Skate with a score of 66.75 for a final first place overall total of 102.20. She just edged the second-place winner, Lauren Russell of Georgetown University, with an overall total of 101.08, scoring 34.30 in the Short Program and 66.78 in Free Skate.

Full-time college students, hailing from California to Boston, are invited every year to compete at the Collegiate Championships and this is the second consecutive year Arrington Arena has played host to the event. While annually recognizing and promoting collegiate figure skating, USFSA also awards the top three women and the highest scoring man in the senior divisions scholarships, incentivizing the most elite skaters to compete for the title.
