Caldwell received her Ph.D., from Wayne State University and is a specialist inrace and ethnic relations, colonialism, social movements, community organizing and development and Northern Ireland.
She was recognized in 2007 by Adrian College as the award recipient of the Teaching Excellence Award through the International Teaching and Learning Conference. She also received the Adrian College Teaching Excellence Award in 2006; is the Editor of the Critical Thinking book; currently Director of the Adrian College for Effective Teaching; Finalist Carter Campus - Community Partnership Award 2004; Michigan Campus Compact, Outstanding Faculty Contribution to Community Service Learning at Adrian College, 2004; Adrian College’s Mortar Board Professor of the Year, 2003; Adrian College's Student Government Association Professor of the Year, 2002; Michigan Campus Compact, Outstanding Faculty Contribution to Community Service Learning at Adrian College, 2001; Alpha Phi Sorority, Professor of the Year, 2000; and EXCEL Professor of the Year, Adrian College 1999.
