Biography
Dr. Christie Boxer earned her PhD in Sociology from the University of Iowa with specializations in social psychology and gender and family studies. She teaches courses in marriage and the family, sex and gender, race and ethnicity, class and status, research methods, sociological theory, and senior research at Adrian College. Her hands-on approach to student mentoring helps students navigate career opportunities for those with liberal arts Bachelor’s degrees. Dr. Boxer also conducts research on family formation and marriage processes, gender construction, and stereotypes and prejudice. She has published scholarly articles and book chapters on the consequences of exposure to disparaging humor, the stereotype threat phenomenon, and discrimination in the workplace. Her recent work focuses on the impact of age, gender, personality and demographic variables on our desires for marriage partners. This research also tracks unmarried respondents over the life course to determine how their preferences for partners change as they encounter various relationship milestones.
