Biography
Sue Smith has been an adjunct professor at Adrian College in the Department of Theatre since 1997. During that time, Sue has expanded the dance curriculum to include Beginning and Intermediate Ballet, Beginning and Intermediate Jazz, Tap, Modern Dance, Choreography and Musical Theatre Dance. She also teaches Introduction to Theatre, Introduction to Acting, Rhythmic Activities and Musical Theatre Workshop. Sue is an award-winning director, choreographer and actress with her works appearing throughout Southeast Michigan and Northwest Ohio. She appeared on stage with stars of New York City Ballet and American Ballet Theatre while a senior company member of Toledo Ballet and was accepted to Columbus Ohio’s professional dance company, BalletMet. Soon after graduating from Otterbein College with a degree in Theatre, she became an artist in residence with Toledo Public Schools working the Toledo Symphony brass ensemble bringing music, dance and theatre to inner city schools. During this time, she also appeared professionally in numerous musical theatre productions including Damn Yankees, Pirates of Penzance, Funny Girl, King and I, Gypsy, and Godspell, to name just a few. She has over 200 credits to her name as actress, director and/or choreographer. Most recently, Sue directed and choreographed the SE Michigan regional theatre premiere of Rent at the historic Croswell Opera House. Sue has also spent the past 22 years as the resident director of Bedford High School Theatre Arts. She is proud to have former students appearing on Broadway in such shows as: Swing, Beauty and the Beast, and Spring Awakening. Sue resides in Temperance, Michigan with husband, Mark and children Chelsea and Kyle.
